7Soft Data Centre Migration Case Study
In Q3 2008, website and content management provider 7soft decided to transfer their hosting arrangements to the new AIMES Grid Services data centre. AIMES Grid Services was able to provide a fully customised hosting and support package allowing 7soft to transfer over 550 websites created for its clients to the AIMES Grid Services data centre.
The first stage of the migration process was to understand the current hardware and software architecture that 7soft possessed. This consisted of a selection of established servers utilising Linux -Ubuntu that hosted a large number of sites created by 7soft using ecreator a Java built content management system for its clients.
Also, a number of MySQL database servers were used to provide content for each of 7soft's client sites. The current solution was acceptable for 7soft but some of their application servers were prone to regular crashes and were approaching the limit of their capacity. At this point, AIMES Grid Services was able to propose a cost effective solution for increasing 7soft's hosting capacity and provide new hardware to host 7soft's current websites with greatly increased security and reliability.
The second stage of the migration process was to create a powerful hosting solution based on Dell PowerEdge 1950 and 2950 series machines. AIMES Grid Services was able to procure and configure all the required hardware on behalf of 7soft. Installation into the AIMES Grid Services ISO 27001 approved data centre was also undertaken to allow for a smooth transition for 7soft from its existing hosting solution.
The final stage of the migration process was to transfer 7soft's client websites to the new AIMES Grid Services hosting platform. Further assistance was provided by trained and experienced AIMES Grid Services staff to create a structured plan for migrating client websites seamlessly to the new hosting platform. With a plan agreed, 7soft and AIMES Grid Services members of staff are able to cooperatively migrate websites to the new hosting platform in a structured and secure manner.
